Another boring hunt.....but I tried for gold.

100 coins for $6.28 + 1 flattened penny!

Interesting charm or something....you'll see!

I went out this evening for a couple of hours, hoping to find some silver but had no luck.

I found:
3 Hotwheels cars
3 quarters
4 dimes
27 pennies
8 wheaties
and the find of the day was a 1920 buffalo nickel!

My buddy gary and I hit a local river beach this evening for about 2 hours. He found a junk ring and I found a junk earring and bracelet, no good jewelry turned up.
I also found 24 fishing sinkers and some clad. There is always a lot of sinkers at this beach.

3 quarters
7 dimes
2 nickels
11 pennies
$1.66 total added to the silver/gold buying fund

Did some research on this old high school that closed around 1920. There's a little league field there now. Well the field was part of the school's property. I finally matched up a couple landmarks to get closer to where the school actually stood. So, I go there and I find that there is about a foot of fill. And, there's slag mixed in the fill. It's bad enough when back-fill a spot but this place had so much potential!!!!

Anyway, I hit an older softball field that had some age to it. My 1st 3 signals were 2 quarters then a solid zinc penny hit at 6 inches. So I dig and find a bling cross. But wait, as I turn it over to look for the hallmark, it's copper on the reverse. And I gave it a good scratch with my Lesche! I guess the front might be silver plated. Anyway, the back reads...."Call a priest, I'm a Catholic.".

I'll post some totals after the next hunt or two....that's the best for me for some time now....oh and I hit another wheat....a whopping 10 wheats this year out of 2600+ coins!!!!

Quick 1/2 hour hunt this morning after work.....doing the bling thing again. Came up empty on every gold/nickel signal. Every one was foil or a pull-tab. I did get a bunch of pennies and dimes. I think 2 or 3 quarters. I hit a main street corner where they closed the old Walgreens and built a new one across the street! High traffic for kids and a kick-but place where the plows clear the parking lot of snow in the winter!!!!

Been thinking of getting a metal detecter and found a Bounty Hunter 505 asking $225 for it. Says only used a few times too much time involved but he had a lot of fun. Says new is $299. Is this a good MD and is this a good price. I am willing to pay more for a MD. But, I want something "pretty good". Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I started detecting with a Bounty Hunter and found plenty of stuff with it before I upgraded to my Fisher F75. I think I would pass on that deal though, for a little over $200 you can get a brand new Garrett Ace 250 from kellyco.

What are some of the best metal detectors in various price ranges? What key features should you be looking for in a price range?

E.g. for a used one under $100, what would be the best you could likely find?

Or one price $100-$300? $300-$600? And above that?

I think I'd be most comfortable in the 100-300 range.

I upgraded my machine and bought some coins and hamburgers! Mom confiscated one bling ring with her birthstone and I gave my auntie another bling because she wouldn't stop pestering me about it. I did get some cool coins out of them, though! I ended up flipping the coins here and there and just about doubling my score!

Here's a shot of my finds on my last 2 hunts. I ended up with a silver cross. I dug lots of low signals and cleaned a spot of some annoying bottlecaps.

104 coins on the 2 hunts for $6.33 + the silver cross and one penny was a wheat!!!
