Is there a sure shot way of identifying artificially toned coins? I can't tell the difference if my life dependent on it

There is a pretty sure way, but it's not an exact science.

A coin like above where it has CLEAR red blotchiness with the outside looking "burned" is the reason this one is 100% guaranteed to be artificial.

+1 Toning should also change with elevation. (The raised letters should be a different color than the surrounding field)

Most sellers will sell coins in NGC or PCGS as "good coins" regardless.

And greattoning is a reasonable seller (although I'm a prolific buyer and I've never bought from them) but obviously they aren't a GREAT seller. No GREAT seller would EVER deal with a coin that is clearly artificial!

Why would a grading company Not note that? They seem to note about everything else on those little holders...

I bought all of these that way. But all my coins will eventually be TrueViewed as I like symmetry And, of course, the best photos are of the naked coin

It's only $10/coin now, which is a great deal. I thought it was reasonable at $20

Yeah 10 bones ain't bad for the TrVu....but you have to pay reholder fees. Also, some of my super sexy coins live in some of my more collectable older holders.

I should give it a try sometime with some of my newer holders.

I like to re-holder into the PCGS-Secure anyway so that would already be done most of the time.

HaHa, I like 'symmetry' too, but I call it OCD in my case.

I know most people prefer PCGS, but I prefer the look of the NGC holders. I don't have anything truly valuable though.
