"Surplus" CDMA Phones as backup

So I got a lead to a surplus lot of CDMA phones, mostly Sanyo Katanas and II's with some oddballs here and there that someone wants to unload. 50 phones in the lot, with some chargers. Reportedly still working but missing parts here and there.

I like the looks of the Katana in blue, and I want to grab a phone or three as a backup and maybe reactivate for use when I go out on the town and don't want to lug around my (expensive) Smartphone. They are not SIM phones.

I've looked on the internet and i'm confused. Could I get them changed to my provider with a minimal of fuss, or is it a long drawn out kicking and screaming ordeal? Or at worse, could I scrap them out?

Too bad they aren't LG's There are a few models of LG I know how to read the
programming lock code out of with a computer if you have the right cable.
Unfortunately I don't know anything about Sanyo phones. What carrier were
these phones originally on and which carrier are you currently with?
