I found a small cache of cents socked away sometime in mid-2009.

239 zincs (1983-2009)
82 coppers (1959-1982) (25.5%)
no wheats or Canadians

1982 BREAKDOWN: 7 copper / 0 zinc (100% Cu)

An ACE is a Ryedale automatic coin sorter... it compares the zincs and coppers and spits them out one side or the other.

That's what I thought, but I thought this was a hand-sorting thread.

Right, it is. But hand sorters eventually get to where they have to figure out the 1982's. Gotta weigh 'em individually, drop test 'em, etc... or run 'em through an ACE. I think there are a few ACE owners who still hand sort, but use their Ryedale for checking just the 82's.

Going to do my last sorting for the year on the last day of the year. I just got in my hands 2 bags from my auntie who came to visit. Looks like $30 to $40 total in there to search. At first glance I saw a wheat...I snatched it up...a decent 1918...so I got a possible neat-o sort for tomorrow! Going to do better record keeping in the new year. So I wish all of my fellow handsorters best wishes on the last day of this year....and best of luck in 2011! HAPPY SORTING!

And a big THANKS again to Country for the work on this and the other threads! BRAVO!

I might add that the ACE is a "manual" Ryedale sorter tool. No electric parts, just feed the coins into the chute manually and a magnet apparatus separates your zincs and coppers. It lets you handsort coins twice as fast when you get good at it. The ACE costs a little over a $100 shipped. Contact Andy if interested.
