Morgan Dollars

Postby silverguy0001 » Fri Dec 31, 2010 1:25 pm

So I got a couple Morgan dollars that weigh 26.3 grams.... I think they are fake. Any suggestions? Or is that .4/gram weight variance insignificant?

Thanks

There are a couple Peace dollars there too. The ones on the top weigh 25.9 grams, The two Morgans and one peace on the bottom row weigh 26.3 grams.. They all have a nice ringing sound to them, but not the same sound as a 90% half dollar. So I'm concerned.

Thanks

They are just well circulated dollars. They look authentic and there is no concern regarding weight of such a coin.

Nobody would go to the trouble to counterfeit a well circulated anything. ( Save for 1922 removed-D penny). The loss in weight went with the details you can't see in the coin.

Oh, the things the Chinese will fake, yes, they will do circulated silver dollar common dates too.

.4g should be within the weight tolerance of the coin. I believe +/- .5g is the tolerance, I might be wrong.
