French flea market finds March 2013

Postby Franco American » Sun Mar 10, 2013 11:52 am

I had to go to France for work so I hit the local flea markets in the area today. I had several small scores:

1942 P war nickel for 45 cents
1950 Roosie for 65 cents
1909 vdb cent for 65 cents

Not a huge haul but I haven't had much luck at home searching...

Isn't that a Royal with Cheese?

If I have the gift of prophesy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to move mountains but do not have love I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned but do not have love it profits me nothing.

Did they not know what these coins were? or why were they so cheap?

My general observation from living here for several years is that there is not much interest in NA coins (I.e. American/Canadian) and they get thrown in the generic foreign coin bins at the local flea markets. That's why I always look through the bins when I visit. Has anyone else noticed this when visiting Europe?

Depending on how much time u have in Paris, I would recommend a tour of the bell tower at Notre Dame and also a trip to Monte Marte. Both have fantastic views of the city. The catacombs are also fascinating in a macabre way. Stay away from the Royale Deluxe as it isn't worth eight bucks,

The catacombs are on my list... my son made me promise to take a picture form there. He has been reading a book where they reference it and want to see it. Thanks for the suggestions.

we got a museum card and a metro card and did most everything.

louvre
eifel
arc de triomph
notre dame
musee d' orsay
versaille

some off the beaten path that are recommended
l'orangere - devoted exclusively to monet; several room-size canvasses
seine boat trip
trampolines for kids at tuilleries
jardin luxembourg - fantastic pond where you can rent old fashioned wood (toy) sail boats.
sainte-chappelle - small, old church with amazing stained glass

one tip - there is a small shopping mall in the basement of the louvre. it has a surprisingly good food court. its centrally located to so we ate there 2-3 times in a week.
Lets Go Brandon!
