A Great Deal on a 1932s .............NOT

Postby justoneguy » Mon Jan 03, 2011 11:21 am

I've been watching ebay to get an idea on actual selling prices on this 1932s quarter.
i've decided on completing a whitman folder for fun, only need a few [expensive] quarters to do so
I came across what looks like a great coin, AU grade, WOW cheap too !! :o

Zoom in in front of the nose, that's where they stamp COPY on the replica quarters. :x
can you see the rectangle where it's been covered up ?
That's why i prefer to do my transactions here. thanks friends :D

You have a good eye.

I wonder if the seller is aware of that?

They don't seem like crooks.

"In God We Trust" is very weak.
If they make replica pennies, why not quarters?

Nice catch. Someone will get burned.

Report it?

I'm going to message the seller and link to this thread.

They look like square dealers maybe they don't notice it.

I alerted the sellers, they might want to check it out.

Maybe it's an illusion. But you are right the In God We Trust looks real weak for such a nice coin

The whole back looks weak.

I researched the replica sites and business is booming.

All US sales have a large copy stamped though.

Washington 32 D&S coins are available.

COPY is on reverse in eagles wing that I saw.

There are a lot of makers and I'm sure they don't stamp COPY if sold in China.

It went for 197.

The sellers read this thread a seemed a little concerned. They want to do the right thing, said it came from an old collection.
They asked how to get it authenticated. I told them I'm no expert.
I recommended they sign on and ask Realcent for opinions.

Looks legitimate to me. Lots of weakly struck "IN GOD WE TRUST" 1932 S's. Probably just die wear.

http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.ph ... ot_No=3597

That one has an as weak or weaker "IN GOD WE TRUST" than the ebay lot.

I'm really not seeing any "cover up" next to the nose.

If that's a good coin, someone got a solid deal.

I'm assuming the OP is referring to the smudge to the west of the nose. From here it looks like a water spot. JMHO

It also has some d@mn ugly carbon spots too.

I must add that it looks like an added mintmark. I don't know squat about these but the area around the mintmark looks lower than the rest of the coin as if someone scraped it. I wouldn't buy the coin.
