Hello Fellow Copper Penny Handsorters:

In January 2011, please post your finds right here.

For those of us who handsort our COPPER, this is the place to report your COPPER treasure. I'll be working up some statistics as the reports flow.

Please report the face value of the pennies searched and the total number of US COPPERs found. Also, list the total number of Wheats, COPPER Canadians, and any wonderful Indian Heads you find. If you find foreign coins in your search for COPPERs, list them too. List the percentage of COPPERs found: the percentage I use is the number of coppers (non-Wheats, non-Canadians) found in the face value of pennies searched. Personally, I breakdown my US COPPERs into 4 categories: Wheats, Clean COPPERS (1959-1981), Ugly Abes (1959-1981), and 1982s (the Ugly 1982s I send them back into the wild); I roll mine up separately and put them into separate $25 boxes for storage.

I'll try to post some graphs of our COPPER finds as 2011 proceeds along by adding data to this initial post. I'll see if I can post some interesting insights into the data here in this initial post for 2011 too. Even though this is a national tabulation of all our finds, I think its fun to know what finds are being made and at what frequentcy.

It might be interesting to see how many Indian Heads, Wheats, and COPPER pennies are found . I'll try to keep track of all of these.

Well - I picked up a box yesterday and saved it til today. GREAT start to 2011:

66 Wheats - yes 66 Wheats in one box! 5 rolls had 4 or more....(4 pre 1940 - 1918, 1927, 1930 and 1935)

What a fun box - I'm stopping at that same bank Monday to see if I can get two more boxes from them.

Dug into my "rainy day" pile of cent boxes and pulled out one with a date stamp of APR. 22, 2009 on it. This turned out to be a special box for me-I found my very first Indian Head cent!! . It was a well worn 1882 and slightly bent. I only wish I had opened this box up sooner! Now only if the Wisconsin Badgers would have won the Rose Bowl the day would be complete. Here's what I found in this $25 box of cents.

Great job on the 1909...you know....we got a tracking thread for pre-1940 wheats. And since you search alot, it's a cool way for other members to see what can be found out in the WILD! My searching perks up a little when I see what someone else has found.
