thanks for the info cwgii! The Recyco on the East side said they will no longer add match (+ 1 cent) as they were losing money on the 2 ads that were .80 a pound...

.52 LB in Salem,Or The place in Albany,OR quoted me .20 LB  but I think they were reading steel price as that is a huge discrepancy and just 30 miles between them.

In my little corner of the Midwest, cans are 63 cents per pound. I see a general upward trend for aluminum as China seems to be consuming more.

I know this has been discussed before but I can't remember the answer - Why such high prices for AZ cans? It appears that Arizona was not a can deposit state (see below). From my experience of watching the market, refining/recycling impure metals usually means a buy back 10-15% below the spot price to cover costs of the refiner and the middle man (Aluminum is usually about 2 times this rate because of the gouging by the middleman). So these prices in AZ don't really make sense to me without a subsidy (Al spot at $.837). My vote is that the states listed below should refrain from posting on this thread because it doesn't help to see artificial prices unless there were a legal option to cash out in that state from another non-deposit state, which isn't the case.

States that have a can deposit regulation:

Connecticut (0.05 US$), introduced 1980
Delaware (0.05 US$), introduced 1982, abolished 2009, replaced by Universal Recycling law.
Hawaii (0.05 US$), introduced 2005
Iowa (0.05 US$, incl. wine bottles), introduced 1979
California (0.05 US$, 0.10 US$ for bottles above 24 fl oz [almost 710 ml]), introduced 1987, 25% raise in 2007
Maine (0.05 US$), introduced 1978
Massachusetts (0.05 US$), introduced 1983
Michigan (0.10 US$), introduced 1978
New York (0.05 US$), introduced 1982
Oregon (0.05 US$), introduced 1972
Vermont (0.05 US$), introduced 1973

Not sure what it is in Tucson, but 3 new yards that also buy plastic bottles are the ones with the crazy high prices. The older yards pay .55 - .62 cents. One is up to .75 just to try and keep some cans going to them. When it was just one yard I thought somehow they were taking the cans to Cali for the deposit, but now 3 different new yards are paying high prices for them....

If Neckro got $2.10 a pound for his California cans it looks like he got $1.60 for the deposit (34 x .05) and .40 for the pound of alum cans

.55 in Cincinnati. Looks like 55-57 cents is standard for states without a deposit or subsidy.
