I have searched a few boxes and have found some interesting items including 19 silver and 10 Canadian .999 (1929 as well) I started it with the intention of just looking for the silver but when I saw all the varied dates still out there, I started a collector book for my little grandchild! Many nickels are still available since they are the one coin not really searched out.
I have about 2 boxes I'm keeping, but I mostly just search because I don't have much money (and no income) and more of it's always going into copper pennies. So most go right back to the bank. I have an order for 2 boxes a week, and the bank could get me more if need be, so I wouldn't have a problem loading up ahead of debasement. I agree nickels are less searched. You can't edge search for silver like dimes/quarters/halves, and there aren't wheat backs like pennies, so more older stuff is left. Very hard to find anything pre-38 compared to pennies, though.
I have a dansco album. I have everything from 1960 onward other than 1968-D and 2009-P filled in, but I've just been saving the pre-60s in a bag so far. I'll probably go through them soon.
267,500 pennies and 186,000 nickels searched. Hand sorter.
