1996-W Roosevelt Dime

I read this from -- http://rooseveltdimes.net/1996-w-roosevelt-dime/ and did not know that there was non bullion w mint mark coins. So now I have $12 less in my pocket and have one.

The 1996-W Roosevelt Dime was released to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the series. This issue is notable because of its relatively low mintage and the use of the “W” mint mark. Typically, this mint mark has only been used for bullion or commemorative coin issues, struck in gold, silver, or platinum.
The coin was only released as part of the 1996 Mint Set. This annual uncirculated coin set was available for purchase from the United States Mint at an original cost of $8.00. Examples of each of the circulating coins from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints were included, along with the specially produced 1996-W dime, which came in a small individual cellophane pack.
Sales of the 1996 Mint Set reached 1,457,000, which was slightly higher than typical at the time. This figure also became the mintage of the 1996-W Roosevelt Dime, which made it the lowest mintage regular issue of the series. Individually, the coins sell at a premium, which also carries over to complete versions of the mint set, which contain the coin.
Higher grade examples of the 1996-W Roosevelt Dime are abundant since the coins were specially handled and issued within US Mint packaged Mint Sets. Some examples have been graded as high as MS69 by PCGS or NGC. The coins are also sometimes found with proof like qualities.

Over the last week I've chased a few on ebay, trying to get a 66 or better on the cheap. No luck. Seems to be an active market for them.

Pretty misleading to call it a "regular issue". I thought some were released for circulation, now that would make it interesting.
267,500 pennies and 186,000 nickels searched. Hand sorter.

I turned down an opportunity for a 1996 mint set that had the coin in it in perfect condition. But I did find a beat up one in circulation so I'm now back to looking for the mint set with the coin in it.
Don't look back. Something may be gaining on you.

Neither a penny or a nickel is worth face value anymore.

I'm just a poor wayfaring stranger.

I ended up grabbing one off the Bay for 12.50 shipped. Still in the cello pack. I might have it graded later, if I can get a deal on a few pieces at the same time.

Not sure why, but I bought a 100 no date/partial date buffalos from the same seller. Impulse buy I guess 8-)

How much do dateless buffalos usually go for?

Not sure what they go for. I paid .20 ea, free shipping.

There's a crafts guy at the local flea market who I'm sure would give me .20 for any I don't keep. Maybe I'll get crafty myself and make something :geek:

Oh, good. I was thinking they were more like 10 cents each...
