Hoard!

Postby Morsecode » Sat May 25, 2013 4:45 pm

A neighbor of mine called and asked if I could look at some coins she accumulated. She said, 'there are some old ones, and some State quarters...' needless to say, I wasn't expecting much. Was I ever wrong!

There are containers and envelopes, albums, old bank coin savers, coins wrapped in wax paper - it's like Christmas at my house. Oh yeah, I took them home. It's gonna take two months to go through this stuff. There's an entire box of colonial coins, many Vf+. Another box of silver. A box with old and new foreign coin & currency....I barely scratched the surface in two hours of poking around.

The Juniors cigar box is wood, and each wax paper packet contains anywhere from 3 to 6 colonials

Here's the overview of what was in the cigar box

Image

Plus, $45 face 90%, 2 Morgans (incl a very nice 1892), 3 Peace, $25+ 40%, half roll of war nicks, some early Canadian copper, Canadian silver, $4 or $5 unsearched wheats (yes...for once, actually unsearched. Since 1960 anyway), a box of older foreign, another small box of semi numi stuff I set aside needs work, half dozen rolls of uncirc State quarters (no Wisconsin; they'd already be on ebay), & $267.76 in ordinary coin which I ran through the Arcade this afternoon. :P

Mrs. F----- was thrilled when I cashed her out

Wow, it would be awesome to get to pick through a hoard like that! I got to pick through one that was like 1/10th that size after one of my uncles passed away and it was very cool. I sold most of it for my aunt, dumped a ton of silver back when it was about $12/oz.
