toned 1961 franklin

I opened a mint pack the other day and found a red toned franklin. I mean this coin is red like a rose. The cello is fully intact. The other coins just starting to turn. Anybody ever seen anything like this?

Interesting Franklin. I've seen a few "whole-toned" ones like that but rarely as bright as this one appears.
Depending on how the color and brightness are in hand it might be a real crowd pleaser assuming it is considered naturally toned.

The envelope it came in was sealed when I bought a bunch of them from my coin shop. As you can see the cello package is totally sealed. It must have gotten something on it at the mint. I was going to have it graded. I have been offered 500 for it but I have a feeling its worth more. So I'm just going to keep it for now. Interesting thought is in those envelopes they put a red card in there and now its kind of pink. Bit I dont see any thing on the cello at all. I've never seen one like this at all.

Probably not. Those packs are not air tight. Not close to air tight in fact.

Yikes, take $500 for it in a heart beat.

There is very very little chance of you netting more than $500. Especially if your time is worth anything to you.

I have more toned coins than nearly any non-dealer and I can tell you odds are very slim that this coins goes over $500 in the open market. Very slim.

Check out these coins for some decent Franklins that I own and have had true-viewed.

None of these is worth $500. Perhaps yours is better, but I don't see $500 in it.

I looked up the prices I paid on each of those and the HIGHEST one on that page was $275 and believe me when I say I PAID FULL RETAIL!

I like the blue one you have. But again I have see types like the rest. A dealer offered me that for my coin. I still have it. Not in a hurry to sell. I have 50 more to open. So maybe will find more. But I doubt it. Not trying to brag just showing you the pic someone asked for. I have seen toned franklins in pf 69 go for thousands

Brag away sir. Cool coins are cool.....and good finds happen all to rarely. So soak um up when you can.

BTW, I like your frank. Love to see how it would grade.

Getting a coin to grade at the top of the known grade standard for Franklins (PF 69) is not. Combine THAT with toning and the multiplier is insane.

Your coin, while nice, is not going to be the top tier of Mint State coins with regard to condition and therefore the toning multiplier is mitigated.

Also not all coin dealers are the geniuses that Dr. Rodebaugh is.

I reiterate that I would take the $500 and be quite pleased

I will be very surprised, happily for you, if you are able to get more than that, especially after figuring in costs and time.

For sure. That grade is tough. Pf-69 is hard to obtain. Although it has a chance to grade in the mid 60's. I think its cool so I'll just keep it and one day maybe grade it. Thanks for looking and your opinions are appreciated. Will post other neat stuff as I find it.
