Gold Standard 10 Oz Silver Bar

Postby silver » Fri Jul 19, 2013 12:51 pm

I have this Gold Standard 10oz silver bar that I bought about six years ago and I can't find any definitive information. I have only seen them on eBay twice. It is supposed to have been made by Engelhard for the Gold Standard Corporation in the eighties. I know Engelhard have their own Gold Standard bars, but they are the pressed type. This one is poured with straight sides. I have always wondered if it has any collectors value. I know someone may value them for their own reasons, but I don't to what extent that desire goes. Any ideas or knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
ED

Hi Slick
Yes, I have seen that one and it looks a bit different than mine. 10 tr. oz. and .999+ are reversed. the site used to have one that looked like mine but I guess they changed it for the prettier one.
Thanks

Some info on the company: http://chiefacoins.com/Database/Micro-N ... ration.htm

Saw pictures of similar bars over on BS one time but couldn't find them with a quick search. They might be buried in this thread somewhere: http://www.bullionstacker.com/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=7554

Actually that bar isn't poured. The Engelhard (or in this case, GS) bars of that style are actually punched out of a big strip or sheet. That's why it has a nice flat back and the shear marks on the edges.

Thanks for the correction. I assumed with the P and the rounded top that it was poured. I read from the website that Engelhard sometimes used the P in their serial numbers without it being a poured bar. I'm still learning.
Thanks again.
