Old Canadian Penny

I got and old Canadian penny sorting today. 1931 with King George. Are these the Indian Heads of Canada?? I'm in the USA.

thats one way to put it they do carry a premium over queens not quite as much as indians but id say .25-$1 maybe more if its a rare one I found a 1945 the other day in pocket change they are a cool find

The penny I found has King George wearing a crown. The 1945 penny has him with a bare head. This penny is totally different than the 1945.

It is the IHP of the north. I have found one. The crowned king is King George V and the crownless is King George VI. King George VI are similar to wheates but less common and King George V are similar to Indian Heads but more common.

Winchester, your find of a '31 King George V is one notch above the common dates from that series. It's mintage is 3,842,776. An average circulated '31 brings around .75 cents to $1 on ebay. Last week on ebay I was the high bidder on a lot of three '31's for .75 cents with $1.50 shipping. The commons from this series sell for .25 to .30 cents on ebay in average circulated condition. A nice find nonetheless :) :)

I thought I would add:

King George VI Canadian pennies (1937 to 1952): average sell price on ebay for average circulated common dates is 2.5 to 3 cents each.

King George V canadian pennies (1920 to 1936): average sell price on ebay for average circulated common dates is .25 to .30 cents each.

Indian Head pennies: average sell price on ebay for average circulated common dates is .75 to $1.

So let me get this right,

A King George VI penny is like finding a wheat US penny

A King George V penny is like finding an Indian head US penny?? How rare are they up North (canada)?

Yes, a King George VI penny is like finding a wheat penny. But a King George V penny is not equivalent to an Indian head. George V pennies (common dates--average circulated) will sell in bulk lots of 50 on ebay for roughly $12 to $15. Try to find an auction with 50 common date--average circulated Indians selling for $12 to $15.

An Indian head is equal to roughly 3 King George V's all things being equal.

I've only found maybe 3 George V pennies. They are hard to find for sure. Great looking coin - I used to use it as my avator.

Over the last year of serching, I have found 2 IH's and @30 George V's. I found 2 of them last night.

There are some really good dates in the 20's though. Worth several bucks.
