Nickel Tracking IV

This is a tracking thread, so slightly off-topic, but related to previous finds I a) went back through my bag of 1939s and actually found a 39D and a 39S that I had missed, both semi-key dates, and I have extra albums now so they filled some alternate holes.

I also went back through my latest bag of 50s (I have two more to go through) hoping I had missed some coins, looking for a 50D and while I didn't find one I did find - of all things - a 38S that I had miss-filed! That was a hole filler for sure.

I also found a trick nickel that someone had made that had a 38x (who knows which mint - too bad, a loss) on one side and a 52 on the other side - ground down to half thickness and glued together to make a heads-only coin.

Lesson re-learned (for me) is to sort the coins twice to make sure they are in the right bag. I get a bit sloppy sometimes in the initial sort.

If any of the other US sorters have any spare grubby 50Ds they want to part with, let me know. I'm not willing to pay a lot, but I would like to fill these holes eventually. I've found a lot of others with low mintages, but not that one.

We have found only one coin from Cuba a pre trade embargo 1946. Looks like being that Canadians can travel there helps.

The conclusion to this 6 box set; overall this set was disappointing as far as warnicks/buffs. No buffs and only 2 warnicks.

1945P annd 1943P warnick (2 in the 6 boxes), my 85th in the 99 boxes.

Edit: Correction, there was a 1943P that I had set aside and forgotten about. Still doesn't make the set that much better, but I'll take 2 rather than 1 any day.

Very nice. I also have been having bad luck with nickels. Id say the last 10 boxes i have been getting nice pre 60s stash but no buffs and about 2 or 3 silvers. I think the RC members are starti.g to pick everything dry. Lol

Joe reminded me I could try the scanner to capture an image, so I did. It doesn't really do the coin full justice - there aren't enough pixels left in the cropped image to yield good resolution, but it gets the idea across. It's about a 4 step coin - there is a slight amount of wear on the most sensitive surfaces on the steps in the reverse and the most sensitive details in his hair on the obverse. And a couple of small translucent spots on it that you can't even see in the scans below. But it has a nice color to it. Not sure how it would grade. I guess it's not truly BU or MS, but it's close. Maybe AU50?

Woo hoo. Found a hole filler. I search about 10 boxes and put all the pre 60s into a masson jar. After i get a few in there i sort them by year and mint. I found a 1946 S with in the last 10 boxes. Only 4 more to go to complete the book, 1942 D (non-silver), 1943 D, 1944 S, and of course the 1950 D. The rest were all found in circulation.
