I went out to the Indiana Dunes State Park. Today was opening day for metal detecting the beach only.

Scored $2.19 in change. No bling!

Went out for some practice. This means I want to hunt but don't have time to drive to better/older spots!

Anyway I hit silver #9 this year. A smaller woman's ring. Had to acid test it because the hallmark is gone or just not there. Got me some nice bright red color!

When I got there in the morning, there were already 20 to 25. All on the sand. By time I left, I'd say a good 50 to 70 came and went. Some were unloading their gear as I packed mine up.

They said "NO" to water hunting. A bit chilly without waders. The beach was pretty sanded in, too.

I dug pennies at 10 inches and quarter deeper than that in the wet sand.

More practice with the CTX. Nothing really to brag about. Just a few odds and ends. A few pics for your enjoyment. A heartbreaker ring, some junk jewelry, 1 wheat, some clad, a boy scout neckerchief, a pocket watch time face, pull tabs, some iron, some can slaw(SOME), a pre-1910 headstamp for turtle(buddy on another site), and today's wanna-be bling earring that failed my acid test but ever so slowly.

You can see 3 sets of clad from the 3 different hunts. The junk gets piled together. Enjoy the pics.

i went clad hunting for a couple of hours yesterday and found:
19 Quarters
9 Dimes
3 Nickels
6 Pennies
and a St Christopher charm (junk metal)

this evening after dinner I went back to old faithful silver park and my 2nd target was a 1960 silver quarter & 1926 mercury dime right on top of it  these are silver coins 24 & 25 for 2013.
my other finds were not nearly as exiting....2 wheaties, 1 dime & 8 Lincolns.

1 small flat button. The other guys did find a couple bigger flat buttoms with gold gilt. I had my stock coil fighting the iron. These 2 other guys had sniper coils. I think we had 9 indian heads between us. I missed a 1839 awesome large cent by a few feet. The other guy went back in the general are I was working and WOW how did I miss that.

OK, time for more practice with the CTX. After watching more videos off I went. Stop #1 was a little league baseball field. These 2 fields are only used for practices now. They date back to the late 40's to early 50's. I got permission from the groundskeeper. But let me tell ya' I was just waiting to catch some grief for swinging on the outfield grass. I am glad this did not happen, though. I found just clad DEEP. Coins were a good 6 to 8 inches down. Even deeper in the mole runs.

Next I went to my trashy old park close to my house(15 minute drive). While looking for deep signals and fighting lots of iron, I get a local guy come up to me and give me a history lesson. The guy's 66 and raised across the street. An old school was there until it burned down in the early 70's. And the funny thing is I have been looking at this guy's property every time I hunt here. I keep telling myself, "....one of these days I'm gonna go ask to hunt that house!". Well now fate has the owner talking to me. To be honest, I couldn't get the cool older gent to be quiet long enough for me to ask permission to tear up his yard.;)

After 10 minutes of him telling me there isn't anything in his yard, he finally gave in! Later he tells me where he played as a kid and about these "lead WWI soldiers" he used to play with. I was very pleased with my situation. The house was built in 1900.:D But he tells me again that his dad was really tight and never gave him or his brothers any change so there can't be any "drops" in the yard.

Well here are some pics of the results of the 2 short hunts and the longer house hunt(2 hours).

I ended up breaking a leg on the toy soldier!!!!:mad:

The house gave up the silver roosie and the 2 wheats. It only gave up 6 other pennies, 3 were zinc cruds. The guy was right....almost.

I do have a "What's the I.D.?". This feels like lead. It's heavy and almost looks like a button.

I'm trying to get pictures of this. But this was a copper-ish token that someone had rolled up. I had no idea that it was a token. I was just goofing around at an old house of a guy I work with. I handed it to him to see if he could tell what it was. He said he could see "2 1/2 Cents"!! Before I could take a look he went into the house. When he comes back it's flat again but broke!!!!! I will try to get clear pics. It's a triangle shape but the token's information is in a circle like a normal token....I wonder if it didn't get punched out?????

Other stuff I found is pictured. A cool looking gear. A really old pull-tab. A smashed penny. A rifle cartridge for turtlefoot...maybe. And a cool brass tag from a park that had a stagecoach line running through it years ago. I did score one wheat. Only $0.50 on this hunt. The coins at the top were from the other hunt.

Yep that's what it is!

Someone had suggested a hem weight but this is way too big for a dress or skirt.

More interesting stuff from the dirt!

Fun, fun, and more fun!
