I found a 1943 P proof nickel

Postby scyther » Sun Oct 27, 2013 12:05 am

Of course, 1943 proof nickels don't exist. At least not officially. So what do I have here? Is it just polished? Has anyone seen a war nickel polished to look like a proof before? It's not just shiny, it's proof-like. I put it up next to a 2006 S proof I found recently and it looks very similar. Any ideas? I'm guessing it's just polished really well, but seriously it looks so proof-like...

And no I don't have a picture, sorry.
267,500 pennies and 186,000 nickels searched. Hand sorter.

If it has the full 5 steps on the back, it probably spent most of it's existence in a folder somewhere.
If the steps are smooth it's been polished and probably doesn't have much value other than melt.

At least you got a War Nickle, at best you got a War Nickle with some added numismatic value.
