Somebody dumped...all 40 of these rusty buckets were stuck to one counter magnet.

Anyone actually saving them in this condition? I normally chuck em if they're pitted.

Morsecode,
Yeah I keep all of them. They are just cool to my son and I.

I save them even if they're crappy. There is an old story about a guy making a bet that his friend coudn't cut a penny with his wire cutters, then gave him a steel cent to win the bet. Figure they're at least good for that! :)

I haven't kept up with the handful I've found this year, but this week found a 43P, 43D, and 43S on the magnets. Must be a low-level Santa gift.

I forgot to post in this thread my steel cent find from last week. In a $25 Brinks box I found four total (1 1943 and 3 1943-S). There was also a 2003 one centavo from Ecuador which is copper plated steel. I was surprises that so many steel coins made it past magnets and found their way into plastic rolls in the box.

On October 26th I found a 1943-S steel cent. It was the first steel cent I've found in the wild in well over 40 years. They made over a billion of these in 1943, so they're definitely not rare or even scarce in the true sense of the word. I bet if I made a few phone calls, I could easily track down 1,000's of them.

So why are they so much harder to find than War nickels, which at least have 35% silver and therefore some intrinsic value to them?
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

NOTE: ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- often
substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) and selling short as well.

I pull them off the TD Bank magnets all the time - well, dozens per year, and more often during the spring school charity penny drives. Like you I don't see them in change very often. But they seem to be sitting in jars and drawers that get cleaned out every once in awhile.

20 fairly nice ones from the same machine as last November. They're not all that commonplace around here but for this one Arcade. Obviously, someone is cashing in a hoard.
