I can't believe you have found so few 1938's. I found so many of them when I was nickel hunting. Probably 1 for every 8 1939's.

Keep hunting i'm sure you'll find the 1950-d. The 1939-s will probably be the toughest one to get. They aren't too expensive if you end up caving and looking at your local LCS.

Yeah, 1938s are surprisingly uncommon, and I've found surprisingly many 38-S and 38-D considering how low the mintage is. Are you sure you don't have the 39-S and 50-D confused? The latter should definitely be harder to find than the former. In fact I'm surprised I haven't found a 39-S yet...

I may buy the last 2 at the end if need be, but I'd like to at least find the 39-S and 44-S in circulation...

Today, in the box that will bring me up to 150,000 nickels, I found the first new date in 2 months... the 1939-S! Like the 51-S before it, I can't believe it took this long. I was considering stopping at 150,000, but I think I'll go to the end of the year. The last 2 times I found anything new, I found another new one either the same week or the next week. Hopefully that happens again. It would be really great to get the 44-S. Extrapolating from the total number of war nickels I've found so far, I should probably have found one already. But if I can't, It's no big deal. Not having a 39-s when I did have a 39-D, 38-S, and 38-D would have been really unsatisfying, but I can live with all but the key date and the 2 lowest-mintage war nickels. But, if I do finish it...

3 more to go!
