LaGard 33E lock. If you burn a hole in the back of the safe big enough for your hand, you can probably reach in and undo the lock linkage to open the door. Sometimes the reset code will be on a sticker on the deadbolt body. If not, you can reset it by accessing the circuit board in the deadbolt body.

Get it reset and working and the lock is worth $25 - $50 on eBay.

I don't know what the rest of the thing looks like so maybe it isn't suitable, but if you keep the front of it intact and get the lock working, you could have yourself a nice little safe. Just mount it to the floor with the back against a wall, or weld a plate over the hole if you want to seal it back up.

some water drops on the button might expose which ones have oil buildup.. then you can guess from there. Worked for me once in the past.

I saw a safe on Craig's list for $50. No combination. I called the locksmith that fixed mine and he said to get into it and repair it would cost $500. I didn't buy it. There are too many working safes for sale for less than that on CL. With scrap at 9.5 cents per pound it would have had to weigh 600 lbs to make a profit.

He said to open and repair it. I guess it would need to be drilled and then the hole fixed.

I don't know what the average going price is.

Youtube is your friend.

It starts by peeling off the sticker that covers the buttons. Then you have to drill and such. You may have to replace the number pad but they are not too expensive.

Sorry, I haven't been following this thread...

Not much new to report. I dismantled as much of the machine as would come apart with wrenches and screwdrivers. Got it down to basically just the outer box and safe. Too cold to work on it, but I will post again once I get it open...and I will get it open even if it means wrecking it.
