I might be able to get my hands on 30 rolls of Canadian nickel and the seller is interested in my silver for his nickel. What do the members here think is a fair trade in Ag ounces. His nickel has a market value of $102. Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated.

Do you mean melt value of $102 or market value? I would think the trade would be market for market with some consideration for shipping depending on who wanted the trade more.

Yeah the $102 was melt value on the nickels. 1200 nickels in 30 rolls at today's market price figures a Canadian nickel is worth .085 cents each in nickel alloy.

Well I pulled the trigger on this deal. Got 45 rolls or 18 lbs. of Canadian Nickel coming to Minnesota out of Canada for the price of $8.27/lb. I feel I did alright, got Canadian 99.9% nickel below melt.
The load is coming to me in rolls, after authenticating each roll to be sure of the content should I re-roll them or throw them all in a canvas bank bag? Excuse the question just started to stack this alloy which comes in pounds not ounces which I'm more use to.

It doesn't matter really. I have a box or two rolled but everything else is by solid type in counted bank bags like I do with cents.

I keep mine in $100 bank boxes (20 lbs / box)...5 rolls = 2 lbs, so the rolls are easy to figure out the weight...also, if you ever want to sell them, you can slip 3 boxes into an MFRB and be safely under the weight limit.
If I had a coin counter, I might try the bags, surely a lot simpler to do it that way.

Final tale for the .999 Canadian nickel coming to Minnesota - 20# @ $8.22/lb.. At the time the final deal was struck Ni was at $8.92 per lb.. I'm quite happy how this transaction turned out. A deal like that probably won't come around again in my life time.

The price of nickel has been fluctuating so much, you may have more chances to make a great deal...I'm not saying the Ni price is being manipulated, but it sure does get whipped around a lot.

If you got nickel under spot shipped from Canada you got a great deal. The shipping alone on that would be $20-30. You got a great deal.

Storing in rolls makes keeping count easier. When you go through the nickels pull out the ones that have a numi premium like the Georges.

My rolls / boxes are strictly 1955-1981, less 1967, less 1970, less any mutilated / damaged coins. I don't look for numi variations, at 65 my eyes aren't good enough for that. I keep separate tubes of KG5, KG6, 1948, 1951 commem, 1967, and 1970. Biggest problem for me is getting empty $100 boxes from the local banks to store my rolls.

I keep 1970s separate due to relatively low mintage / scarcity...I do not attempt to look for errors / variations, my eyesight gets screwed up rather quickly, I just look for dates. My younger queen coins are mixed into the rolls of 55-81s, just Ni bullion to me.

Now I gotta go resort my "Real" nickels. I was just sorting them by ruler. I suppose I could just use the tubes and do it by date.

There are nice racks for nickels available. Those portacounts hold a box each and stack nicely.

I think there is one variety with an extra waterline.. was it 1964?
