This is the 1,000th reply on this thread. I have to say this thread was quite successful. I bet there aren't too many on the entire RC site that have more postings...

Today I recycled the following:

140# steel @ $80/ton (4 cents/lb.) = $5.60
1# INS Copper #1 (80%) @ 1.20 = $1.20
2# clean aluminum @ .40 = .80
9# yellow brass @ 1.40 = 12.60
TOTAL FOR ABOVE = $20.20
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

NOTE: ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- often
substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) and selling short as well.

drats I forgot my slip. turned in even more stuff than you lolo.

I almost want to stop using cfs. but suspect the other places are no better.

punk that unloaded my truck. broke my totes because he was to lazy to pick them up , or take some stuff out. just slammed them into the ground. so I lost 40.00 ... when I bitched to the owner he just said. take some milk crates. then they only paid me shred, when it was all prepared.

that was in the morning, in my gfs truck. later I went back with mine that had half
''torch'' ie long bars, rods, table legs.
again the paid shred.

complained to the cashier... she made it right. then as I walked to the hot dog cart. I was reading my pay slip........ no .10 bonus. wTF

finished my hotdog and went back to complain yet again..... ended up giving me another 26.00

Yep need better faster help at the small scales. For my aluminum I had clean sheet in the bottom of the truck and some extruded separated on top. Kid says go to scale, I say extruded pays more lets just remove it and then I will go to scale with rest. Kid says don't worry I'll fix it, ? Put me down for 100 lbs clean sheet and 40 extruded (which was probably too much extruded) but he was lazy as you said. Kid always thinks I am in a bad mood when I go there LOL. But I am sure I got screwed at the big scale by 20 lbs on the clean sheet so I guess it all works out! LOL Were they busy when you were there? I wondered how much traffic they would get doing the radio thing? With the punch card full there prices normally are a little higher than the rest of the yards around them. I like Desert Metals much better but have not gone there so far this year...

My scrap dealer called yesterday and let me know shreddables has moved up to $130.00 per ton. Still way down, but any upward movement is welcome. I can remember when we would get $23.00 a ton for the stuff so I'm not going to cry too much, yet!

When you say shreddables, are you referring to paper or something else? (never heard that term before)

Light steel that a scrap yard would run thru a shredder. Nothing over 1/4 inch thick as a general rule.

I see some entries here on Mothers Day. I can just imagine someone from RC saying to his wife, "Happy Mothers' Day!" By the way, today we're going to the scrapyard!
