The blind squirrel scored tonight

Postby cooyon » Mon Sep 21, 2015 8:15 pm

Our coin club had 10 foreign silver coins for auction tonight, I guess I was the only bidder who knew what they were. I picked up 6.9 oz asw for $56.25, or $8.15/oz. Lots of big heavy coins: 1926 Venezuela 5 bolivars, 1966 Bahamas $1, $2, and $5, Mexico 1968 Olympics 25 peso and 1978 100 peso, Panama 1962 1/2 balboa and 1970 5 balboas, 1930 Netherlands 2 1/2 gulden, and a 1935 Swiss 5 francs. Very little wear on any of them so they should be close to the minted weight. The three Bahamas coins are mint state, 2.6 oz asw for $14.25 total or $5.48/oz, that was the best deal. I don't like to brag, but I will about these :D

Since we are near the end of baseball season and since you mentioned bragging, here are a couple of my favorite bragging quotes:

1. I think it was Dizzy Dean who said "It ain't braggin' when you done done it."

2. One of my all-time faves was when someone told Babe Ruth that he made more money the previous year than the President of the United States. His response, "I had a better year!"

Congrats on the nice score on foreign silver. I bought a bunch of foreign silver from a dealer and got a deal like this once. When I went back for more about 1-2 mos. later, his prices were MUCH MUCH higher.
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

NOTE: ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- often
substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) and selling short as well.

I picked up a gold ex-jewelry Spanish 1802FA Madrid 8 Escudo last November at a coin auction for $218.00 after fees. Melt at the time was about $950.00.
About half the bidders were dealers.
