Yep - back when a buck was a buck but they were hard to find. Back when a depression was a depression and we were only semi-socialist through works programs instead of using it as an excuse to transition government to socio-communism and the population to an entitlement mentality.
In the game of Woke, the goal posts can be moved at any moment, the penalties will apply retroactively and claims of fairness will always lose out to the perpetual right to claim offense.... Bret Stephens
The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those that speak it. George Orwell.
We can ignore reality, but we cannot ignore the consequences of ignoring reality. Ayn Rand.

I read a book about the same period in the Panhandle of Texas during the Dust Bowl and those folks were pickling tumbleweeds just to have something semi-palatable to eat. Many deaths from 'dust pneumonia'.

I grew up poor. I remember my Mom boiling weeds (called them greens)... I got a puncture vine (goat's head) stuck
in my tongue once

Goat head is the most evil plant on God's green earth. It is a direct result of the original sin.

My dad and I would dig the throwaway produce out the garbage can at the corner grocery store. I would have no problem doing it today. Slightly brusied, Some good stuff too asparagus artichokes avacados, all the expensive stuff.

That is a very cool picture BTW. I'll bet there was a bit of love and respect in that room. Those are the people who won WWII.

That actually is better that seeing a bunch of modern brain dead american retards on their devices.
If I have the gift of prophesy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to move mountains but do not have love I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned but do not have love it profits me nothing.

The folks in the picture have no "things" but are from a generation that had hope, determination and a vision. Only thing they asked for was a chance to use their hands on a hard days work. Today with too many people its the opposite. They have "things" but the fire inside is gone. Why work when the check is deposited each month and the recliner is comfy and the nfl is now on three days a week instead of 2.

One can only imagine what it will be like when this rolls around again. We have gone from a mostly agricultural economy to one of smart phones and tablets.
