Question about French 5-/10-franc coins

Postby cooyon » Sun Sep 18, 2016 6:30 pm

I picked up a big lot of French coinage last week, which included 94 nickle-clad 5-francs and 67 bi-metallic 10-francs (with nickle centers). Do these coins have any value for the Ni content? I can't imagine they do, but it never hurts to ask.Appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks!

Nickel clad can't have much value, the nickel centers probably have a little but only worth a cent, if that.
"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered....The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."

Bill,
These are all early '70s with very high mintage.

Here's a related thought: if the European Union crashes and burns, the EURO coins may just be so much scrap metal shortly thereafter. I have no idea how many countries, varieties, and denominations there are now, but it's surely in the hundreds (my Krause only goes to 2000). Although they are not easy to get, being an ocean away, this might be the time to find out the low mintages, and put away select AU pieces, etc., and perhaps small-denom Euro currency too.

For the Euro-challenged, press ALT and enter 0128 on the keypad .....
