How to sell Copper cents?

Due to unforeseen circumstances (economy, society, politics, …) I may/will be moving in a few months. I thought I would never move and had no intention of ever doing a large sell off. I have not been paying attention to selling advice from the forum. I will be moving far enough that I can’t (don’t want) to move the cents.

I don’t have a ton of copper cents, maybe a half a ton. I have buckets and rolls in $25 boxes. Short of following Thogey’s widow to the bank, what do y’all think I should do? I have used the ‘Buy It Now’ area of this forum to relieve Hoard of a CTU of Wheaties. (Those are moving with me.)

What do you think? Craig’s List, Beg Barter & Buy, (f)eBay. What are the pros and cons of each approach?

The fees on eBay border on criminal. Craigslist has been best for me. I don't post huge lots for sale at once, just single $25 bank boxes. Let the buyer come to you. For me it's been like fishing, requires patience. Had a guy inquire about buying $100 FV and, once he realized how much I had to sell, ended up filling up his SUV until the shocks were bottomed out.

Try all of them and see what works. Local buyer on CL(here) for pick up is always the best ( if the $ makes sense) . Shipping is not a bunch of fun Get an ad on eBay ( after factoring in fees and check what the competition is pricing at )

I would try craiglist first and maybe even some local coin shops.

Could you pm me how much you would want for the whole lot? I would suggest Craigslist first as that would be the most lucrative although more time intensive and prone to scammers.

Good question, depends on how quick we sell this place. My smokin hot wife wants to list our place by Jan. Our realtor wants to list now. I don't see it happening until Feb. I don't see us leaving until April but who knows. I have space and can move them to 'the shop.' I just want to sell before we move. With any luck I'll sell them all to Catfish4u and he can help me move 'em out.

Sold all of my Cu (that I'm not willing to move). Local buyer, friend of mine. Not much over face value, +$12 per CTU. I'm keeping all the wheaties, S mints, and anything else I want.

BTW, my smokin hot wife said that I should keep 'em all. I just don't like the idea of moving them (insert your own lame excuse here). I did have fun sorting them.

All the Cu is gone. I made enough to buy a roll of ASEs. Turns out I had just over a ton (2080 lbs).
I asked him where he was going to keep it. He just smiled and said, 'keep what?'
I still have my Ryedale and some wheaties. It took me 7 years to extract that ton. I'm thinking it will take quite a bit longer to get the next ton.
Just have to get life to cooperate. I hate it when I have to work/move and/or be a responsible adult. I'd rather go bank mining any day (OK, fishing is up there too).

The smokin' hot wife says I should buy Ag with the face value. She is the best! I told her that we need to pay our bills and get out from under this crushing mortgage. However, like I said above, I talked myself into a roll of 2017 ASEs.

Hi all. Haven't been online in quite awhile, but the copper in my heart is still beating...

Hopping on board this thread for a broad suggestion on what an acceptable selling price range would be these days. I'm in the process of dishoarding some (several hundred pounds) but not all of my copper pennies. A dude on CL offered me 10% over face. Unless things have gotten more dismal than I realize, that seems pretty low. I'm not soliciting offers here in the thread (if anyone is interested in buying, message me, esp if you're in the san francisco bay area where we could do in person exchange), but rather just checking with you all what the general bid/ask is these days for a large-ish exchange like this, and whether I should laugh at the 10% over face offer or take it seriously.

The metal value of a brass penny is currently 182% of its face value. So an offer of 110% seems low to me. At the same time, I don't think anybody is paying 182%. I'd ask for at least 125%, and I would think you could get 130%+ on eBay (assuming you're an efficient seller). The price of copper has been on the rise lately, now at $2.74 per pound.

With price of MFR priority boxes up, $110 is better than $135 sell on ebay. Everytime I've seen copper move on here lately it has been under 1.4X shipped. So about 1.25X after shipoing, or lower.

If anything is coming of Trump infrastructure spending....or other copper bull moves, I'd sit on mine for a bit.

If your cash from selling will pay off a CC that is costing you 15% or more, take the 110% and be thankful....

I concur, however, depending on your situation and motivation, I might try and get a bit more. If he/she (the buyer) is local, they would prefer to buy without shipping. You both have an "arms length" advantage. Bump the price & split the shipping savings. I personally would hold on to the cu unless you need space or dough worse. I see inflation and infrastructure in the future. Should be good for industrial materials & om's alike. My time is valuable & I wouldn't part with it at 110%. I'm in the Ozarks so I can't help other than my 2c worth! Best of luck with your decision
