10 pound copper bars

Postby mrrosado » Sun Jan 01, 2017 12:55 pm

Is it worth buying 10 pound copper bars. I just bought a 10 ounce cube for $9.99. That's .99 an ounce. A 10 pound bullion bar would cost me $68.95 shipped. That's .43 cents a pound. But when it comes time to sell the shipping costs for that 10 pound bar will be high vs the 10 ounce bar.
I like collecting Gold and Silver. I prefer the Silver stuff. God Bless You.

In general, copper bars have sizable premiums to melt value and would usually be bought as conversation pieces, not investments.

Think about it this way. People have had a hard enough time selling copper cents at a profit on this site even with the recent runup in the price of copper. The shipping costs alone make it difficult. When you add the fabrication costs for copper bars (which can be quite substantial), it becomes that much more difficult.

Unless you are in the business and have a list of clients you work with regularly, this would likely pose a real challenge, even after holding for a long time.
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

NOTE: ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- often
substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) and selling short as well.
