Now that's a LOT of cans. Just curious- I would think that if these were stored outside that they would attract a lot of bees. Did you have them stored inside to avoid that?

Found 2 mini fridges one had no door, I filled them up with all my small stuff, cord ends, tin cans, Christmas light bulb sockets and such, I did however screw on a screen to the fridge that had no door in order to keep all the stuff in when it gets dumped in the scrap pile!

Bees, Ants, Gnats, Cockroaches, Spiders and other Desert wildlife all like my cans but I found if I crush them the cans attract less wildlife!

yes i crush,
yes i ''store them''. in trash cans that have ''issues'' cracks etc.
however i do two things to the cans...... i use a dozen milk crates , lined up in 2 rows of 6.. to spread them out to dry. or..ll let the bees have them for a couple days. then when i put them into the trash cans. they are in a doubled trash bag. that way when it is time to take them in... pull out the bags... fill with another can... voila a full 55 gallon bag. ready to turn in.

537# of compressor/coil assemblies @ 15 cents/lb. = $81.00

I filled up my car Friday night with the compressors from a dumpster I go to fairly often. When I went back Saturday morning, someone else cleaned out the rest of the dumpster. I know it was a scrapper because they only took the good stuff that I didn't have room for in my car. Oh well- share the wealth...

One thing I heard from my local recycling place is that they need special equipment and training to remove the refrigerant safely from the compressors. Also, the equipment is quite expensive.

So, if someone doesn't have the necessary equipment, they may give you only a very low-ball price and turn around and resell the compressors to another party that has the evacuation gear.
