1922 D found

Nice find! Strong D or weak D? There are 3 varieties! Since it has a D we know its not the type 2.

Awesome find!

I found one myself but that was way back when I was doing $300-$400 face a week! So the odds of finding a better date were a little in my favor!

Thanks for doing that for me HenrysMedford! I went down to the local coin store today and found out that it is only worth about $16.00. Oh well, maybe the next one I find won't have the D, lol!

One of the other members said strong or weak D. Can anyone tell me where you find a book on all the varieties of pennies. Is there one book that stands out above the rest. Also, since a picture was not included, does anyone know the maximum size allowed?

That's a Great find! Since you said you found it I take it to mean "in the wild", so for a 1c investment a $16 return is always welcomed! Happy New Year!

I thought about getting the 22-D graded but wasn't sure if it was worth it or how to go about doing it. Probably my best find sorting.

You have to read the linked topic. I was dumping coins at a different branch from my pickup and they said someone came in with about $350 in pennies. I asked if I could buy the bags and I only had $200 on me at the time. They said yes and loaded some bags on a two wheeler. I took them to the truck but they put 5 bags on the two wheeler so I had to withdraw another $50. I took them home and sorted and averaged over 70% copper. One bag was lower and I figured it was partially full when that person came in with the $350 of pennies. The group of 5 shown in the pictures was from one of the 5 bags. In hindsight I should have taken all 7 bags at the time.

coin grats on that '22 D...any 22 is a nice find.

That is the most expensive and rarest variety!

ALL 1922's are suppose to have the D mint mark.

There are 3 varieties with the Type 2 (no D) being worth by far the most.

To find a 22D in any condition these days is still something quite remarkable. Where has this cent been for the past 95+ years? I wouldn't sell or trade it either. It's a testimony that there are still some worthwhile coppers to be found in the most unlikely of places. If it was larger, I'd consider mounting it on the wall. LOL!
