Somehow, I knew this was an April Fool's joke. But it did put a smile on my face when I saw the title. :) Nice one.

For a second there I actually believed it.

Silver Monometalism is the most permanent and stable form of money the world has seen. Natural law and history prove silver value is best multiplied by gold and best divided by copper. It is only in this counterfeit currency time when the natural law appears suspended.

Actually I think that it is legal to melt war nickels. Never have done so, and I've heard the refining costs could be very expensive. So it is something I may never do.
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

NOTE: ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- often
substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) and selling short as well.

nope. war nickels are illegal to melt. the law states one cent and five cent coins, it does not specify the metallic composition.

Let me add a little something to support my reasoning. Perhaps this will be news to some:

https://www.leftovercurrency.com/is-it- ... elt-coins/

And the text...

"Is it legal to melt coins in the USA?

In the US, a melt ban was introduced in 2009: the US Mint prohibits the melting, treating and bulk exporting of one-cent penny and 5-cent nickel coins. Some exceptions apply, such as exporting less than $100 worth of coins, or melting 5-cent silver alloy coins dated 1942 to 1945 (source: Federal Register Vol. 72, 2009).

So you cannot melt your US pennies and nickels in the United States or abroad. Else you risk a fine of $10,000 and/or five years of imprisonment."

Anyone want to dig into Federal Register Vol. 72 (2009) to see exactly what it says?

that is what it says...

From Mr Google and the Fed register Vol 72 easy peesy...

"(d) The prohibition contained in 82.1 against the exportation, melting, or treatment of 5-cent coins shall not apply to the 5-cent coins inscribed with the years 1942, 1943, 1944, or 1945 that are composed of an alloy comprising copper, silver and manganese."

Back in the day my wife made me melt. But I guess that was a bit different from what you meant.
