I opened it up to check the drawers and heard something fall. Looking down it was yellow metal thing. I picked it up. It was a Gold filling. Must have been in the drawer. It has been on quite the journey so it was amazing it survived and fell out on my house. Free gold made me smile

Nice find!

Back in my stock broker days I had a client who was a longtime dentist. He took fillings that he removed and threw then into an old container of some kind. After many years he decided to sell the contents of the bucket and got $10,000 for it. Not bad for something that has just been sitting around for such a long time.

Thanks Steve. It was a pleasant surprise. I bought the dresser at an auction to flip. Thankfully it didn't sell while in the storage unit because I probably would have missed it and some lucky new owner would be winning. (provided they knew what it was).

I forgot to add this item- a month or two ago I was in the self-checkout area at the local Walmart and looked to my left as that person had just left. I saw something and walked over to the station they were at. It was a $20 bill hanging out of the change return device. I tried to find the rightful owner, but they were long gone.

Someone forgot their cashback, and you have been recorded on video taking it.

Not specifically currency/coins, but last spring during our annual ""let's see what the college kids threw away when they left for the summer"" scavengering around TCU, my wife found a really nice Longchamp purse. Leather, well broken in, but not in a bad way.

There was no identifying information in the bag, and we didn't discover it til we got home so we didn't know exactly where the purse was found...

But in an inside pocket was a grand total of $525.67 in valid gift cards for local eateries, a couple of visa gift cards, a Target card.

In keeping with the thread intent: I always look in the multicolored candy displays in front of the checkout counter at gas stations. There's so much visual noise there, people drop currency in there quite frequently and don't see it. I've found money there several times including a Ben Franklin once!

EDIT: Don't know why I said TCU... that's over in Fort Worth. Our score was in the apartments & rental homes around SMU, which is in Dallas (Highland Park).

Dime in a washing machine I found today on the side of the road. I noticed it dumped in the fringe two weeks ago when I stopped at a nearby garage sale. I came back with an empty vehicle today and it was still there.

I was at a car wash a few days ago. Next to the vacuum area there was a big bucket with all the leftover crud and corruption (presumably) from the vacuums.

The bucket had less than 1/4” of dirt in in, maybe even just 1/8”. But I saw a coin, then another. It took about 5 minutes to sift through the dirt and find $4.40 in coins- that included 12 quarters. It is amazing to me that whomever collected the dirt and debris didn’t notice all those coins. There were easily dozens of coins. Maybe, because of COVID, they were too afraid to touch them... More for me!

While standing in line this morning at the local library waiting to vote I found a presidential dollar coin on the ground. I decided I should just flip it to determine who to vote for president. Heads (Millard Fillmore) would mean voting for our current president and tails (Statue of Liberty) would mean voting for the Libertarian party candidate. It doesn’t really matter which side of the coin came up since I’m in California where neither one of those choices has a chance of winning.

This thread has mushroomed to 12 pages. I’m not going to go through all that to see if this has been posted...

That said, a few places to check for money when people leave things out front for periodic rubbish removal or Craigslist:

1) Pants pockets.
2) Contents of a chest of drawers- don’t forget that the bottom drawer sometimes has a lift out type hidden storage location.
3) Suitcases and purses.

Just be careful to have a flashlight after dark and look out for spiders, critters, etc.

Parking lot quarter yesterday. I started doing one dumpster again. One day, 3 separate bags had a dollar bill.

Now that I am not working at the recycling MRF and working at the truck yard I mostly find garbage truck pennies when we have to clean them out to work on.
