Something a bit different here-

Sold a mid-size SUV for scrap for $700 and the company buying it didn’t charge anything for towing it from our front yard. So it was a NET $700. Car was in a rollover accident. It was badly crushed, all glass broken, and I couldn’t even get the odometer reading.

Thankfully none of the four young people in it at the time of the crash was seriously injured- just soreness and some minor cuts and bruises.

I got quotes from 4 scrap companies. They were “about $175”, $400, $450 and $700. You can see which one I took. I texted photos to the companies, so they all had access to the same info. It was surprising how much the quotes varied.

For privacy reasons, I’d rather not say where the accident occurred or the year/make/model of the car.
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

NOTE: ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- often
substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) and selling short as well.

I'm glad nobody got hurt, Steve. And yes, you have to call around for a scrap car as the prices are all over the place. $700 for scrap is crazy, it must have been fairly new or had salvageable parts.

I’m guessing the buyer had a customer already looking for that year/make/model. Also, it could have been someone with a monthly quota or goal to hit as I sold it on the last business day of May.

It seems prices came up faster on the east coast than elsewhere. Wire is a tough one right now, especially lower grades which are often exported.

We have one yard that stopped all can, #1 . another is down to $0.20 on cans.

If it was all alum cans at 33/#, you had 10#---$2.00
Not worth the gas.

If we had return value, I would have done well. 12,000 beer bottles a week. Of course the source would have changed being worth easy money.
