What a revolting development. This COVID-19 mess has put a damper on Coinstar-ing but I still try to get out a couple of times a week. Before at-home time became the norm I was able to score a decent March. US totals are right at $5/month, foreigns are chugging along at 17 countries, tying 2016 for the 2nd best annual total. Some silver also showed up to claim the oldest foreign so far in 2020. We have another month of this homebound craziness so I'm not too enthusiastic about April.

Something else I decided to track this year was coins found on the ground in my apartment complex. So far the tally is 90¢, almost a penny a day. Let's see if I can keep up that average all year.

March totals (2020 totals)

1¢ - .43 (1.53)
5¢ - .70 (2.30)
10¢ - 1.80 (5.00)
25¢ - 1.25 (6.75)
50¢ - 0.00 (.50)
Total - 4.18 (16.08)

Great score- and silver to boot! I wonder if the other person was emptying a piggy bank or coffee can and was afraid to touch the reject chute...
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

NOTE: ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- often
substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) and selling short as well.

This could've easily been a lost month. In fact the first two weeks produced nothing except a few pennies found in the parking lot of my apartment complex. But by the third week I was itching for some Coinstar time, and yikes was I rewarded big time. Two of the largest single-visit hauls in months came on back-to-back days (23 coins, then 16 coins) and produced a bevy of juicy foreign finds, including some new countries. 36 foreigns in one month may be a new unassisted record, and the 24 nation total for the year is pretty impressive given the current searching limitations. The US total was naturally lagging behind the monthly average, which was expected, but I was still happy with it.

Another month, another national crisis. Hard to keep focus on coins with what's going on but I'm perservering. Funny how each month tends to have a different theme, May's seemed to be tokens evidenced by some choice and diverse examples. All the other categories were fairly represented too - the US total bounced back nicely; foreigns had a decent showing, and the wheatie-silver rivalry flared up, complete with a Merc discovery, my first since 2015.

My apartment "Found-in-the-parking-lot" tally is $1.53, still on a penny-a-day pace.

May totals (2020 totals)

1¢ - .68 (2.68)
5¢ - .35 (2.90)
10¢ - 2.30 (8.10)
25¢ - .75 (8.00)
50¢ - .00 (.50)
Total - 4.08 (22.18)

Included in May's totals - 1952-D wheatie, 1944 Merc, 1952-S Roosie

Canada
1 cent (1999, 2008, 2012)
10 cents (2006, 2012x2)
25 cents (2015)

China, People's Rep
1 jiao (1993)

Great Britain

Ireland
1 euro cent (2011)

Singapore

Not sure why June was sort of sub-par all around but at least there were some interesting finds, including a couple of demonetized foreigns. Now that the summer heat is here and this pandemic stuff doesn't seem to waning anytime soon, I'm dispensing with any real attempt to surpass any of my Coinstar 2020 goals. Normally I'd do a mid-year estimate to see where I am, but I'm just not in the mood lately. :(

"Found-in-the-parking-lot" total is sitting nicely at $2.21, which covers my penny-a-day goal thru Aug 8th.

June totals (2020 totals)

1¢ - .45 (3.13)
5¢ - .20 (3.10)
10¢ - 1.60 (9.70)
25¢ - 1.50 (9.50)
50¢ - 0.00 (.50)
Total - 3.75 (25.93)

Included in June's total --> 1929 wheatie

Canada
10 cents (2016)
25 cents (2008)

Germany
1 pfennig (1974D)

Great Britain

A few factors conspired to make this a low month - one of my Smith's stores going temporarily coinless, and Coinstar finds have dried up like the beastly Vegas heat. In addition, while walking back from the mailbox in my apartment complex and looking for change on the ground, I was stopped and questioned by the property's security patrol. Apparently, glancing into empty parking spaces as I walked by them qualifies as suspicious behavior. Despite their paranoia, one of the better coin spills of year happened this month (ten pennies and a dime) and raised my year-to-date total to $2.65. Questionable whether I'll pursue apartment parking lot fishing anymore since it's now attracting attention.

July totals (2020 totals)

1¢ - .42 (3.55)
5¢ - .00 (3.10)
10¢ - 1.00 (10.70)
25¢ - .50 (10.00)
50¢ - .00 (.50)
Total - 1.92 (27.85)

I used to work in a complex that had a grocery store next door. It had a Coinstar machine. I would always find stuff on the top of it. Foreign coins, dirty U.S. coins. My fave was when there would be U.S. coins sitting there because they were stuck together by gum or something. Rather than take a moment to separate the coins that were rejected by the machine, people would just leave them there. My Dad would say that's missing the forest for the trees...
