August was not a month to be proud of. I pretty much hibernated most of my days off because of record-setting Vegas heat. Only in the last couple of days did I make my usual CS runs, and if it wasn't for those scores my totals would've looked pretty pathetic. They're by no means anything to write home about as it is, but it's something. The lone highlight was my 25th country for the year.

August totals (2020 totals)

1¢ - .23 (3.78)
5¢ - .15 (3.25)
10¢ - .50 (11.20)
25¢ - .50 (10.50)
50¢ - .00 (.50)
Total - 1.38 (29.23)

Great Britain

September was somewhat of a rebound month. While the US total almost doubled August, it was foreigns that made the best showing, with a couple of new countries and a tie for the year's oldest. Three months to get five new countries to break last year's record. I'm still mired in a silver drought since May but one lone wheatie meant obsolete US coinage wasn't left out of the mix. Do cooler months = better finds? Time will tell...

September totals (2020 totals)

1¢ - .40 (4.18)
5¢ - .30 (3.55)
10¢ - 1.70 (12.90)
25¢ - 1.00 (11.50)
50¢ - 0.00 (.50)
Total - 3.40 (32.63)

Included in Sept's total: 1940 wheatie

Bahamas <--New country!
1 cent (2014x2)
25 cents (1991, 2000, 2005x2)

Canada
1 cent (1982)
25 cents (1977, 2004-P, 2008 Snowboarding, 2013)

Belize <--New country!
25 cents (1989)

France
1 franc (1960) <--Tied for 2020's oldest!
2 euro cents (2000)

Great Britain
1 penny (1985, 2005)

Philippines
10 sentimo (2010)
1 piso (2011)

Spain
5 euro cents (2005)

2020 countries (27)
Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Bahrain, Belize, Canada, China, China Rep (Taiwan), Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, Trinidad & Tobago

Not a Coinstar find, but I’m putting it here for lack of a better place. Was going through the drive-thru at my local McD. Saw something shiny on the ground. Opened the door while waiting in line. Lo and behold- it was a 1952-D Roosevelt dime.

In a perverted sort of way, finding that little dime (worth about $2) was more exciting than saving $2,000 on a house. Why, you ask... Because if they offered me $2,000 off the price of a home I’d be wondering how much more I would have gotten if I had sharper negotiating skills.

The silver dime, on the other hand, was totally unexpected.
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

NOTE: ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- often
substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) and selling short as well.

Classic good news/bad news story.

Discovered a former co-worker works at Smith's. I asked her if they still get lots of foreign and odd coins in their self-serve checkouts and she said "Oh yeah".

Good news: She'll put aside anything unusual for me. Got an inital batch of nine foreigns.

Bad news: She said they used to throw all the oddities into a bucket in the back office. It got pretty full but...she doesn't know what happened to it.

I'm drooling at what might have been in there. Maybe it's still there in some back room.

Waiting in line at the grocery store tonight I spotted a shiny Canada quarter on the coinstar countertop. It was sitting there with a metal button from a pair of levi's.

The button is still there.

Made me nostalgic for the good old Penny Arcade days.

The comeback of the year! So many things happened in Oct I might as well make a list.

--> It started off with a bang on the 3rd when I nabbed a 67-coin haul at one of my usual stops, easily one of my top 5 scores ever.
--> That led to my fourth highest US total since I began keeping track in 2016.
--> Among that US haul was my oldest CS dime ever, a 1917 Merc...WOW!
--> Foreigns have tied 2019's record of 31 nations with four new ones this month. One more in two months for a new all time high.
--> Coinage found in my apartment complex parking lot is keeping pace with roughly a penny a day. The total stands at $3.07

October totals (2020 totals)
1¢ - .90 (5.08)
5¢ - .35 (3.90)
10¢ - 1.30 (14.20)
25¢ - 10.50 (22.00)
50¢ - .00 (.50)

O...M...G!! November was chugging along with the usual US finds, nothing out of the ordinary, then BAM! Two days ago I scored my biggest single Coinstar haul ever - a staggering 248 COINS - more than doubling my previous record of 104 in 2017. It was a surreal experience and tested the limits of what the reject chute could hold. There was an empty Clorox wipes container next to the machine and I put it to good use. I was beyond giddy at what could be in there. When everything was tallied, it ended up being $27.96 in US clad, copper & zinc with a few foreigns and tokens. Just mental! Safe to say it'll be a long time before I top that score, but I hope I'm wrong. Needless to say, Nov set a new record for the most US ever in a month and 2020 will easily be a new yearly total record as well.

The other big story was foreigns. We left off in Oct tied for the most nations found (31) which I promptly trampled over this month by finding SIX new countries, including a new oldest for the year. Now the only question is, can I reach 40 nations before Jan 1st? Can't wait to see if it happens! Finds in my apartment complex parking lot are still averaging about penny a day at $3.32.

November totals (2020 totals)
1¢ - 1.88 (6.96)
5¢ - 1.85 (5.75)
10¢ - 6.90 (21.10)
25¢ - 22.75 (44.75)
50¢ - 0.00 (.50)
Total - 33.38 (79.06)

Included in Nov's total: 1952-D dime

Canada
1 cent (1985)
5 cents (1989)
10 cents (1974, 1986, 1994)
25 cents (2002-P Canada Day, 2008)

Cayman Islands <--34th country of 2020!
25 cents (2013)

China
1 jiao (2014)

Ecuador <--36th country of 2020!
5 centavos (2003)

Ghana <--32nd country of 2020!
1 pesewa (2007)

Great Britain
1 penny (2001)
5 pence (1991)

Mexico
50 centavos (2000)
1 peso (1997, 2009)
