Found a Civil War Token

Postby PennyPauper » Sun Feb 27, 2011 6:05 am

Heard of them, never seen one until tonight.
Though it was a Indian at first. No not a Indian.
Then a thought,maybe gold?No not gold :(
Its a copper 1863 New York.
Took some time searching the nets to find out more.

Mine looks like the 3rd one down on this page.http://www.coins.nd.edu/WashToken/WashT ... otic1.html
The one in the picture is in way better shape then mine, but at least you can tell what it is :)
It's not a huge windfall, but I am enjoying the history.
And feeling very honored that Uncle George stopped in for a visit.
Ive been real lucky since starting this hobby. It's amazing what you could find sorting pennies!

 real nice find. I did see some wheat cent rolls with a civil war token on the end sell on fee bay for $80-100. I wouldn't sell it if it was me, that's a nice piece of history.

Congrats. I found one in a $50 bag a while back.

Silver ones that are dime size also exist. I found one of those in a bag of dimes last year.
