The 2009 is very impressive, but you should try a different bank so that you can get more rolls. The more you can search the better. Hopefully you can get more without going too far from your house. Large cities offer more banks (and more coins)

I can ask my CU.

I just opened one roll of dimes. No silver, but there were 52 dimes in the roll. Really. I counted twice.

With all the talk about the price of raw nickel and the difficulty in acquiring more nickels, I visited my local Chase branch where I have a business account and learned that there is a coin shortage. I was only able to acquire two rolls each of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. They said they only had one Kennedy half in the place (which I bought) and I was tickled when they asked me to pay 50 cents for it. I had already called it a half dollar. Anyway, here is the nickel sorting report:

Out of 79 nickels (yes, I know there should be 80. Hold your horses.)...
One 2009 P rather well-circulated
One clad dime (instead of a nickel)
Oldest: 1961
Newest 2021 and there were several
The next oldest was 1971 and there were 3 of those.
No Canadian/foreign

I'm not dumping any of them.

After I had my coins in hand, I asked the tellers why there is a shortage of coins. "Because of Covid they don't have enough workers at the mint." To which I inquired, What are they paying? I'll work there. Neither of the tellers smiled.

Finally, I would note that I merely told them I have a business account, which is true. They did not desire to look at my ID, even though I offered. They also did not say that I had to wait a certain number of days before returning for more. So, theoretically, I could visit all the Chase branches and pick up more coins -- 2 per type -- as often as I desired.

Sorted 25 rolls of nickels today with poor results. The best I was able to do was a 1940, a 1946 and two from 1941.

Opened 10 rather strange rolls of nickels today- not one coin newer than 1999. In other words, all 400 nickels were from LAST century. Nothing great was pulled, but here are the notes:
38 1964 - almost four per roll
Only 2 from the fifties, but 12 from the 40's (oldest was 1940)

66 pre 1960 nickels (almost one per roll)
Included in the above number were:
3 war nickels
2 1939
1 1950 King George in F, possibly VF condition
1 1951 S mint (low mintage as most of you know)
Also worth mentioning were/are 8 Canadian .999 nickels

Way to go! Are you keeping all those great finds or do you sell them?

Both, I will keep certain ones, and I will sell certain ones. Most importantly, I must continue to drain stuff out of circulation before it's too late.

I FOUND IT!!! Tabulated results from early to mid May nickel sorting. I wanted to post these results awhile back, but couldn't find the paperwork to do so. A three week period in May saw me open 282 rolls!!! That's almost 6 boxes. Pulled out:
5 War nickels
3 Buffalo nickels (1929, 1935, 1936)
2 1938
9 1939
58 1940-1949
58 1951-1959
7 .999 Canadian (1 per every 40 rolls)
1 1944 Germany whatever coin.
Always good to drain pre 1960 out of circulation.

Did not tabulate last week's results, but I did manage to pull TWO war Nick's from the same roll. Last time I did that was 3+ years ago.
Opened 20 rolls earlier today and pulled 9 pre 1960. The oldest was a 1940, but the best was a 1945 war nickel. I have now "purchased" over 30 war nickels in 2022 for face.

"I have now "purchased" over 30 war nickels in 2022 for face."

That's pretty impressive. How many searched boxes produced those numbers?
