Found a bag of pennies I’d forgotten to sort after picking the discontinued coins up from a bank about 3 years ago. Went to Credit Union to dump about $16 worth of not copper pennies. Checked the reject tray to find:

7 1967 Centennial silver Canadian dimes?
1 Loonie

I also noticed a couple pennies stuck under the sort wheel so I asked them to open the machine. That gave me another small win:

1 Copper Cdn penny
1 Copper US penny
3 Cdn dimes
2 non-copper Cdn Pennies.

Also bought put their oddity stash but that was only a $0.50 non-silver Canadian today. So skunk there. It’s been many years since I found silver in the wild.

Nothing extraordinary in October. Steady finds led to a perfectly average month. One interesting note was I tallied my Canadian finds and they totaled $100/face, which probably represented years of accumulating, and that was just the extras/duplicates. Foreign duplicates total 134 coins (54 being Mexican) since I last sold a bunch in 2019.

Presume this thread covers all coin machines, not just the branded one.

I don't normally look anymore (having found little in the past) but I happened to be standing next to a machine while standing in line at the service desk, something caught the corner of my eye and I stuck my hand in the chute and pulled out a Canadian nickel quarter and 36 cents in US coin.

Sixteen cents (U.S. coins) found yesterday in a CS machine. Dime, nickel and penny. No good dates.

Forgetful. Yesterday’s funds were at a branch I had not been in for years. It had a coin machine I had not seen before. Coin stream. Odd but makes sense. No belt to feed coin. You had to push it into a slot. Think coin star. Without being able to lift the screen.

It sucked. Not going there again ever

In the last few days I got a 1960 French franc- made of nickel. With it was a 2020 Mexico 50 centavo coin and a zinc U.S. penny.

1960 was the first year of the French nickel franc. I have a full tube of them (they fit quarter tubes perfectly).

November's US total came within a nickel of tying October, but the real star this month was foreigns. Four new countries were added to the year total, including and two all-time new ones. 30 nations is a possibility if I have a good December, so we'll see. I also learned (or re-learned - maybe I already knew but forgot) that the weekend after Thanksgiving is terrible for Coinstar-ing, since the grocery store is the last place people need to go. But we all know people cash in their coinage before Xmas so let's hope December ends 2022 with a bang!

OK, haven't reported in a while, but always check and pull anyting I find from the local coinstar. My closest one is in a Winn Dixie grocery store. Over the past 3 weeks, I have found silver on 3 occasions. The day after Thanksgiving - Black Friday, $1.83 in the tray, 2 silver Roosies (46 & 54). The next day, $.38, one silver Roosie (64). Then this past Sunday, $.81 in the tray, another Roosie (63). Finally, I got a silver dime in change at Wawa for the first time in ages as well. Perhaps people are dumping some stuff as we approach Christmas and they're maxing out the credit cards and need to cash in change for groceries and gas. It almost makes me wanna start searching dimes again.

2022 was a pretty good year, Coinstar-wise. While I didn't eclipse any records, there were solid totals in all areas (US tally, silver, foreigns, even tokens). Best find of the year was clearly the 1907 Philippine/US 20 centavos, which is now my oldest Coinstar find in three categories: US, foreign and silver. And speaking of foreign, lots of totals bested last year's figures, with Canada and Britain being the standouts. My apartment complex parking lots finds came thru in the 11th hour to pass my penny-a-day goal, with the 3-year tally also above that threshold. I've added another stop to my searching route, so I'm back to eight Coinstars to check. Can't wait to see what they give up in 2023. Best of luck everyone!

The only way to know "for sure" is to dump in nothing but silver and see if anything gets counted, which I never plan on doing.

From what I've seen, the discriminators can vary widely from machine to machine. I pull tons of clad and zinc that looks perfectly fine. Might some silver get counted with the clad if the discriminators are a bit off? Probably, but I think most is rejected. Hard to know definitively unless you talk to a tech. Pre-1940 wheaties seem to be rejected as much as silver.

I saw a guy at the CS machine and attacked it right as he left.
