Back when the US Mint had a program to promote the early Presidential dollars (I don't remember exactly when, but it wasn't more than 10-12 years ago), you could buy them from the mint at face on a credit card and have them shipped via USPS for free. For a short time, until the bottom fell out of it (I was late to that game, of pumping up your credit card rewards for free - other people had to get greedy and buy them by the 10s of thousands, which led to the demise of the program), I was buying $500 of presidential dollars every couple of weeks and spending them all over the place (grocery stores, etc). I dumped more than a few at my banks. Between my shopping with them (cashiers would freak out, which was kind of fun) and dumping some at he banks, the local economy was pumped full of many thousands of them from me alone. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them were still in bank vaults, years later.
