Stopped at EIGHT banks today, buying lots of pennies and nickels. Asked for half dollars at every bank and generated only THREE loose halves (no silver). Can't even find junk! Lol

My best silver year since 2010 continues...

Here is the latest on my half dollar searches:

9/7/23 (TH): $17.50- no silver
9/13/23 (W): $6.00- no silver (bank 1)
" $100.50- no silver (bank 2) (the $100 in rolls were all Loomis wrapped)
" $30.00- got (4) 90% halves (all 1964's) and (4) 40% silvers- total of 8 silver halves (bank 3)

My running total for 2023 so far:
Searched $2,572.00 face in halves
41 were pre-1964 (Walkers and Franklins)
8 were 1964's
33 were from 1965-69 (40%ers)
82 total silver halves (1.5% of the total searched) (still my best year since 2010)

This is getting fun!

Stopped at a bank yesterday and bought $11 in loose halves. The teller expressed great joy in getting rid of them including the 1969 forty percenter.

I then relieved him of 58 IKES. Unfortunately, no silver and no 1973. Also, condition of these are not good at all. I have designated them for assignment.

Wednesday got a whopping $1 face value in halves- 0 silver.

The 2023 wildness continues!

On Thursday, I got halves at 5 different banks.
Bank 1: .50 face- 0 silver
Bank 2: $8 face- (1) 40%er
Bank 3: $18 face- (1) 40%er
Bank 4: $30 face- (1) 40%er
Bank 5: $220 face- a whopping (39) 40%ers
$276.50 face total- an incredible (42) 40%ers (7.6% of the halves I searched) (so roughly 1 of every 13 halves was silver)

This was one of only 2 times that I got silver from 4 different banks in the same day. The other time was back on 11/10/17. But the 4 different banks only gave me (1) 40%er each and I had to search $973.50 to get (4) 40%ers. So Thursday was definitely better than 11/10/17. Got a lot more silver and had to search many fewer halves.

There was one day back in 2012 when I got silver from an incredible 7 different banks in a single day, but I had to search through $1,379.50 face that day- vs. only $276.50 on Thursday.

Ok, there weren't any 90% halves on Thursday, but I'm absolutely not complaining. Still, this is my best year with silver since 2010 and now my second best since 2004.

Revised YTD totals- $2,849.50 face searched- found 41 Walkers/Franklins, 8 from 1964, and 75 of the 40%ers. This is 124 silvers total or 2.2% of what I searched.

A few notes about the haul from Thursday...

One of the halves had an SBA dollar plus 19 halves in it.

The bank where I got the 39 silvers was interesting. The lady initially said she had $200 face in halves. I said I'd take $100 and proceeded to go through them quickly in my car before leaving. There was a single 40%er and the SBA dollar. I decided to go back in and ask for the other $100 face in halves. She happened to say, "Oh, by the way, we have another 4 rolls separate from the $200 I told you about if you want them." I said YES! Two of the rolls looked pretty normal. The other two had the following handwritten on them...

"Save for Noreen. Worth $140 (2014)" Pretty sure they meant the two rolls were worth $140 together, not each. They are now worth about $170 together! It is sad how many people give away valuables without having the aptitude to go to a coin dealer to see if they can get more than face value for them. Oh well, more for me!!
