I took a four week break from sorting pennies. I then got back into it starting Friday evening. So here's my first report of the year:

$50 face, all 100 rolls were CWR

947 American copper
58 Canadian copper
12 wheats

1017 TOTAL COPPER for an average of 10.17 per roll - slightly over 20 percent.

ODDS: three dimes, three foreign coins and 12 Cad zincs
2 of the 3 foreign were 2-cent euros

One observation: the number of shield cents that have come into circulation in the 10 year lapse I had in sorting has really sped things up! (Not necessarily in a good way)...Don't have to flip 'em over to check the date.

The issue is condition. By the time a 2017P makes it into our hands it has been floating through the system in one way or another for 7 years. And we all know what zinc pennies look like after circulating for a few years.Value, if to be believed, is around .35 cents in MS65. That falls off a cliff for lesser graded coins. And there were 4 billion minted. Not exactly scarce.

Getting a box of leftover unopened 2017P from a pickup bank would be a score worth holding onto.

Odds: 5 dimes and 5 Canadian zincs. I appreciate the fact that 41 out of 46 Canadians were copper- that's a 90 percent success rate.
