2024 Redbook

Postby Morsecode » Wed Jan 31, 2024 8:42 pm

I don't race out to buy every edition, but my 2018 needed updating. My glass insulator price guide is from 2011. In other words, I'm cheap

The new Redbook came today, from ebay. I would have preferred to buy locally but the coin shops don't carry it anymore. Pity.

The lay-flat ring binder version is the bomb. I wonder if anyone still buys the hardcover edition.

Glad you like your new one.

I almost bought a new one too last week at my local Barnes & Noble, and I've got a 2022. You think I'd learnt my lesson after buying one every year back in the 80s and 90s.

The new edition (2025) usually comes out in April so maybe I'll wait till then.

I just got the new one too and yes, I am cheap. The last one I have (which I used often for info purposes, not pricing) is 2010. If anyone wants my 2010 red book you can have it for free, just pay shipping. PM me.

I like the spiral bound, easy to handle. I use it mostly for pennies, info, mintage figures etc. Just loaded with good numismatic info.

Time to get a new one. My old ones from 1974,1987 and 2001 are falling apart.

I usually get one every 4-5 years. Picked up the 2024 last summer.

FWIW- One thing I don’t like about the Redbook is that the prices ALMOST NEVER (note the word almost) go down. Clearly, that isn’t realistic.
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

NOTE: ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- often
substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) and selling short as well.
