I honestly don't know. I've saved a couple but for the most part, I return them back to the wild.

That's a good idea. I may try that, but streaks happen. Good and bad.......as HCBTT used to say "when percentages are down, sort more and when percentages are up, sort more."

Many years ago (but not soon enough) I attempted to sort halves locally. After dozens of boxes with nothing, it became obvious that I was way late to the game in my area. I observed that every tube was marked and many had been pried open and then reclosed by hand, returned to the box. I think it had to be one or more insiders at a bank and or an armored car unit, as no one else could have gotten away with that approach on every box without counting them into a bag.

That's why I didn't pursue sorting further. I wish I had been aware enough earlier and in a position to sort at that time, so I have a tinge of jealousy for those that are in areas that continue to expose supply.

My cousin started sorting in the late seventies. Cents, dimes, halves.......just about everything. He tried getting me into it then and I couldn't see the forest for tree's. Fast forward to the 2020's and he's got safes full of silver.

Stopped at one bank this morning to buy pennies and nickels. I also bought their loose half dollars ($6.50), but they were all junk.

Like Saabman and others, I wish I had started this earlier.

I could not have started earlier...dad had a bank for me. I really don't know, age 4. ??? I know that teachers were surprised I could count and add in kindergarten.

As an adult, I took my pay in coin. Until forced into direct deposit. Full circle. Now my social security comes as 2 boxes of halves and 2 boxes of pennies.
