Here is a penny project I stumbled across. Cool result. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zS382O2bP0M

Well, interesting, except it wasn't from pennies. (Not that they couldn't be used instead.) As I understand it, the original metal was from copper wire.

Incredible workmanship... but isn't melting Cu pennies illegal?

I was thinking he might be outside the states, in which case it wouldn't be an issue, but he's apparently based in Las Vegas. Yes, it's illegal for him to melt them.

Are they US cents? Could be actual pennies from England or cents from Canada.

This was of course the top comment, but some there are saying it's only illegal to melt US coins for profit. "Artistic" purposes such as the hammer don't fall under the same law.

Would like some clarity on that.

Btw, he says he used $10 in pre-82 US pennies.

An artistic hobby maybe. But a professional artist is by definition a for profit venture.

The feds have determined that earning any ad revenue from a YouTube video featuring drone footage is a commercial activity that requires a commercial drone license. I would imagine there's a strong argument that melting pennies to make a hammer for a monetized YouTube video is activity profiting from the destruction of one cent coins for their metal value, and therefore a violation of the US Mint melt ban.

Interesting that melting a pretty small amount of pennies isn’t legal, yet store theft up to $950 (at least in CA) is treated like it is no big deal. Oh well…
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

NOTE: ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- often
substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) and selling short as well.
