Rainsonme.. I know what you mean.. my bank forgot to order my half box this week too.. synchronicity, or is there a half dollar shortage? At least they called me earlier this week and told me they forgot to order it. I tried to double up for next week.. but they said no.. claiming tiny vault space.

I think there could be a shortage of halves. Half dollars were never minted in the large quantities that other smaller denomination coins were. I know that I emptied out the small vaults of 2 local banks. In more populated areas, just imagine how many sorters that there could be. Most will want half dollars because they realize that the is where the SILVER could be. Banks must be running out, given the publicity of SILVER nowadays. With the exception of CWRs, we all may be witnessing the final end to SILVER searching as most bank vaults have been emptied, sorted, and the coins returned to the Fed.

I think when a bank says to you that they forgot to order halves, many times that could be bank "code" that the vault of the service provider is out of the coins you ordered. I believe that the service provider then has to go the Fed, get a pallet or so of the coins they don't have, and then roll and box them up. That takes time, perhaps as much as a couple of weeks.

Went to a TD bank about 25 miles from my house today to dump some dimes, and when the dime bag filled up the attendant was needed to change it. While the machine was open I could see into the half dollar bag, and at least 2 Walking Liberty halves looking back at me.

I told him he had some halves I needed for my collection in the half bag, and can I buy them outright and he "no, they're counted already." So I ask can I swap out half dollar for half dollar, and after he asks the manager they say OK. I go to my car, and sure enough I have no halves with me.

Long story short, I drove 25 miles back home and grabbed $25 in halves (to be safe), and when I got back here was the take:

19 Walking Liberty (1916, (2) 1917, (3) 1918, 1919, (2) 1920, 1923, 1927, 1928, 1929, 1934, 1935, (3) 1936, 1 unreadable date)
3 - 1964
1 - 1965
2 - 1966

I have been very lucky lately to say the least.

I canceled my string boxes last week because they always come opened and I find it hard to dump $1000. a week. The bank forgot to cancel and called me today and told me that they had one for me. I picked it up and again it was opened I canceled again. Tomorrow I pick up my Brinks box (which I have better luck with )from my other pick up bank.

Had a personal best this morning before work! I went to my bank and got a Brinks box of dimes ($250) and found:

8---90% rosies...there were (6) '64 (1) '63 and (1) '61

I don't know if I'll ever beat 8 dimes in one box=) I had them order 4 more boxes for me today and I'll pick them up next week, so we'll see what happens!
