What's a Shotugun roll?
If I have the gift of prophesy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to move mountains but do not have love I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned but do not have love it profits me nothing.

these ones annoy me the most. there are many sellers who do this to. Selling "unsearched" rolls of wheats or indian head pennies, but somehow theres a merc dime on the end and it could be a 1916D.... So I guess they bought an old box and there was a sinlge merc at the end of each roll of pennies. but they knew it was still pennies without searching them.... talk about shady...

The first guys says the rolls are sealed with tape. No kidding after he opened them up and stuck the Merc on the end he sealed it back up with tape. When people bid on these rolls I just have a hard time feeling sorry for them.

On the other hand, is it possible the people buying them. (invalids, people in rural areas etc) don't have access to boxes of halves and it's worth the premium to them for the delivery?

It's the perfect scam...Seller states he doesn't know what's in them, so no refunds, no returns. You'd have little chance convincing ebay that they're being dishonest. Especially since, in both of Treetop's examples, the sellers have over 300 feedbacks 100% positive.

Now, what we could do is run several competing auctions in the same category, and use those listings as a soapbox to educate the masses (and maybe point out some of the scamsters' tricks at the same time)

The guy selling the halves does not seem as bad as the "unsearched" penny rolls which are obviously not, whereas the guy selling the halves probably did not search them. Odds are its just skunks but he is not being totally dishonest like the dime penny-rolls. Almost as bad as the Chinese "silver" bullion bar sellers.
"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered....The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."

Shotgun rolls are machine wrapped rolls. They look like shotgun shells in a sense.

To add a few names i've heard in relation to rolls:

CWR's are "Dynamite" cause they look like sticks of Dynamite.
The plastic wrapped rolls are "Sausages" cause the plastic looks like the membrane that is used to make sausages.

I just didn't know what a shot u gun roll was.

The sausage term is a new one to me, though.
