1 box $500 halfs from Brinks = 3 40%; best box I have had since November. Sad.

1 bag $495 in halfs yielded 1 40% and a 1880-H canadian silver 5-cent piece. Very worn. Smaller than a dime. 0.034 ounces of silver.

And I had $800 in halfs from Friday that I turned back in and got $750 back --- that made my lone 40% half on Friday a very expensive coin.

preservingThePast, I got $800 in halfs on Friday, and put all but 1 40% sliver back in a canvas bag. I took that bag to the bank the next day, and the teller told me the count was $749.50. I am pretty sure her count was $50 short; if i had droped $50 in halfs in my car, I think I woudl have noticed it. But I consider it a hazzard of this strange hobby. I have not noticed that branch making errors. I dump there every Saturday morning for 4 years. This is the first significant under count. So if I advertised that $50 over the past 4 years, its' not much of a fee to pay. If it was all counted against that one poor 1967 half, it was quite an expensive coin.

The worst part is that the teller asked if I was a collector and I told her yes. She told me that about a month ago she had a whole bunch of older half dollars that were made of a different kind of metal, maybe lead or something? They sounded different and were older.. On March 21 I found 36 40 % and 3 90% halves in $105 of loose and CWRs from my new favorite bank. I also got skunked with $40 from another bank. On March 28 I found 1 40% in $80 of CWR halves. I also found 5 roosies and one merc in $225 of CWR dimes. I got skunked on $400 CWR dime rolls that someone must have had the gall to search before me ... how dare they search *my* rolls (lol)!!!
