It it worth it to scrap a TV?

I have an old TV (10 years old) that I need to get rid of.

1. It there any value in scrapping it?
2. Is there any danger to doing it?

There is a decent amount of copper and insulated copper wire inside. Be careful not to break the tube.

Capacitors with residual charge would be another possible danger, unless it hasn't been turned on for a good long time.

Thanks for the replys.

The TV has been off for several months.

I ended up breaking the point off of the tube in order to fit it into a garbage bag.

There were probably several lbs of copper in it.

There were wires, a circuit board, and the copper.

Inside the tube there was more metal, but I have heard that the tubes contain some nasty stuff (not sure if it is true or not), so I did not open the bag to see what it was.

All in all, I would not pick up a TV to scrap it because of the volume of non-salvagable stuff. This was one of my own, so I was worth it to get rid of it.

On large pickup weekends, fellas in my area will take a hammer and break open & pull up the back wooden panel of old console TVs & cut out the copper wire.
They just take the low hanging fruit.
