Do you think they compile all buy prices & sort of average them?

I checked on Christmas lights & they list them as $0.69
My yard only recently started to buy them again at $0.20
That's quite a difference in wholesale/retail.

On the other hand, #2 copper is a lot closer.

Most of those prices are inaccurate, a few look reasonably close.

It's irrelevant to most of us anyway. The most important factors are:

1) Spot price of the metal in question.

2) What buyers in your region will pay for it. Local factors play the biggest part after spot price.

The reason there is such a difference for christmas lights comes from refiner paying for shipping, granulating, sorting out glass, ect, until they effective are copper. Things like copper 2 really only need to be melted down and then electroplated.

I think Dr. Cadmium has the right idea; There is no way these prices are all correct. They are a fairly ok estimate, but not much good to us. It has things like CPU processors at $5.50 per pound. and motherboards at $1.20. The last time I checked I got much more then 60¢ for stainless steel...
