18,449 difference between my 1st and 4th. 165 minute difference. Works out to 111/min. There were probably 5-6 thousand that were sold in the first 45 min. Only 2500-3500 are probably left.

dang! I guess I should of ordered one and sold it instead of just getting one for another member..... thats fine though, Ive had bad luck reselling things on ebay. I dont have a knack for it, and was given a pretty good offer as it is....

I was wondering the same thing. I guess you would just refund the purchase price to the buyer but I will not put mine up for sale until I am holding it in my hand.

Can someone help explain: I ordered one around 12:30, and the status now says:

1 unit backordered. Expected to ship on 05/12/2011.

Does everyone else's say this?

Also, someone on ebay asked me if the mint order status is "back ordered" or "confirmed" - what's the difference, and how do I know which status mine is?

I believe it's ignorant to sell something you don't own in your hands. At any time the mint can delay the order a month, and you're screwed on ebay.

There are always risks associated with speculation. It is a natural part of the market, though, and helps inform people about the value of an item.

2 different sets of coins... the one on sale at the mint today is the first of the Numismatic version of the 2010 ATB 5 oz coins.(mintage 27,000) Amark has the first of the 2011 bullion coins for sale (mintage 125,000)
all 11 of the mints authorized Dealers will be selling the 2011 bullion coins in the next few weeks...

Clear as mud?

Here is the deal as I know it.... The America the Beautiful 5 oz coins are a large version of the ATB quarters. The 5 oz version is .999 pure silver. 5 Quarters/5 oz coins will be released each year from 2010 till 2020. The 5 oz ones will actually have 2 of each Park/Monument released each year, a bullion version, and a Numismatic version, both .999 silver.. The Numismatic version will have a P mintmark. Problems at the mint resulted in the 2010 coins being struck very late in the year and in limited quantities. 33,000 sets for the bullion version and 27.000 sets for the numismatic version.
The mint is selling the numismatic version, the authorized dealers sell the bullion version. The 2011 Gettysburg and Glacier both went on sale from the mint to the distributors this week.
The mint held the first sale of the 2010 5oz coins today. They are selling them 1 at a time. Hot Springs was today. There will be 4 more Mint sales of 2010 dated coins in the next few months(not sure of the dates)
Watch for the sales of the 2010 coins.. there are coin dealers paying 50 to 100 dollars above purchase price right away for these coins. They will be worth a premium. Anyone feel free to add or correct anything in my post.. Diggin
